What is the difference between letter names and letter sounds?
A letter name is what we call the letter, like B. A letter sound is the sound it makes at the start of a word, like the /b/ in ball and bus. Children usually learn names first, then sounds.
How do the letter sound pages work?
Each page introduces one letter and its beginning sound, shows three picture words that start with that sound, then asks the learner to match pictures to the letter and find more words with the same beginning sound.
When should children start learning letter sounds?
